AnagramsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A sport is an organized, competitive, entertaining, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play, in which a winner can be defined by objective means. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing). The physical activity involves the movement of people, animals and/or a variety of objects such as balls and machines or equipment. In contrast, games such as card games and board games, though these could be called mind sports and some are recognized as Olympic sports, require primarily mental skills and only mental physical involvement. Non-competitive activities, for example as jogging or playing catch, are usually classified as forms of recreation. Physical events such as scoring goals or crossing a line first often define the result of a sport. However, the degree of skill and performance in some sports such as diving, dressage and figure skating is judged according to well-defined criteria. This is in contrast with other judged activities such as beauty pageants and body building, where skill does not have to be shown and the criteria are not as well defined. Records are kept and updated for most sports at the highest levels, while failures and accomplishments are widely announced in sport news. Sports are most often played just for fun or for the simple fact that people need exercise to stay in good physical condition. However, professional sport is a major source of entertainment. While practices may vary, sports participants are expected to display good sportsmanship, and observe standards of conduct such as being respectful of opponents and officials, and congratulating the winner when losing. Team sports improve cooperation and communication skills in a number of ways. First, you have to learn to work together in order to achieve a common goal. You are all trying to win, hopefully, so this is your common goal. If everyone on the team doesn't cooperate, then no one will be in sync, your plan won't work, and you will lose the game. In relation to communication, everyone on the team has to cooperate and this takes verbal and nonverbal expression of common goals, or communicating verbally and non verbally. Everyone on the team has to be on the same page and this cannot be accomplished unless there is a great deal of communication between every player on the team. This is only a jumping off point, so I hope it's helpful in getting… [cont.] Answered by ryan d - Tue Mar 17 10:08:27 2009 What do sports news reporters major in in college? Q. Q. Sports players will frequently wear black armbands to commemorate the death of a teammate or close colleague - for instance, the Liverpool/Manchester City players are wearing them today in memory of the Motherwell captain who passed away yesterday. My question(s) are: (a) Where did the wearing of black armbands first originate? Would I be correct in guessing that it's something to do with the military? (b) When was the first recorded instance of sports players wearing black armbands? Asked by Studley - Sun Dec 30 12:38:29 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The wearing of black armbands is a custom which originated in Ancient Egypt and came to the West through Republican Rome, when the Toga pulla made of dark-coloured wool was worn during periods of mourning. I dont know when it was first used by sportsmen.
