I am currently researching impact attenuation and I am having some difficulty determining what exactly the difference between the compressive and crush strength of a material is. It would seem nearly logical to reason that they are the same thing, but I have been told that they are not and considering that one involves the dissipation (or lack there of) of a more sudden impulse of energy and the other involves a more progressive addition of force over time, I don't believe that they are. However, I really can't distinguish between the two, nor can I determine how either are calculated. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Same calculation, opposite direction. Plastic deformation is not usually considered, as compressive failure is typically by brittle fracture. Crush strength has different meanings, depending on technical specialty. I assume you are not interested in pipe collapse or corrugated cardboard structures. For foams, We used to test samples of concrete and epoxy with a crush test. The crush strength is the force required to drive a sample of a standard shape to its compressive strength. There are standard ASTM test methods for these. I don't think either is really related to impact resistance, which would be more related… [cont.] Answered by wingstwo - Sat Jul 24 19:05:27 2010 How/when should I incorporate strength training into my training plan? Q. I alternate between intervals and just fartleks/tempo runs/anything not intervals every other day. I have been reading alot about strength training recently and I would like to improve my core strength as well as some other areas. Should I do this strength training every day on different areas, or every few days on the same areas or what? Also, should I focus on just upper/core strength or should I work on my legs as well? Because I figure mmy legs are already getting enough of a workout from running and hills. Asked by Just Kyle - Wed Jan 2 22:40:24 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Core strength could be done every to every other day. Here are some core training tips: Make sure you work all your abdominal muscles- upper and lower obliques and lower back. Go to these links for some exercises: * (scroll down a little bit to see the exercises) * * * * * * The two from runnersworld.com are just a couple of the many they have. If you go to runnersworld.com and search abdominal workouts, it comes up with a whole page! Our XC team incorporated strength training into one workout and one cross training. You don't want to "bulk up" as a runner, you only want to "tone". For the cross training day we lifted weights, focusing a lot on our arms but also a little on our legs. Then we'd bike or swim, etc. For… [cont.] Answered by will_run4basketball - Wed Jan 2 23:23:10 2008 Can the magnetic field strength of an object affect the distance in between the objects?
Q. I have a science fair project. The subject is in physics and astronomy combined. I am trying to prove that the magnetic field strength of a Magnetar affects the distance in-between a star nearby within the Magnetar's constellation. Can it? Asked by Dimadowork - Sun Feb 1 02:58:23 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I'm not sure what you mean by "distance in between a star nearby" but 'nearby' is a very relative term. If I understand your question to be, "can a Magnetar repel or attract a nearby star" I would have to say no, unless it was in a binary system, and a binary system usually isn't the type in which a magnetar would develop. While it's true that the magnetic field of a magnetar is incredibly powerful, the magnetic flux decreases the further away you get. Star systems are on the order of tens to thousands of light years away from each other. Like magnetism, gravitational attraction decreases the further two objects are from each other, however, gravitational forces are much more influential in a star systems motion. As a side note, a Magnetar' [cont.] Answered by Pecos - Sun Feb 1 03:38:10 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "strength" China firmly opposes US military report on China - Xinhua
